Štúrovo (Párkány)

The town on the Danube, the southernmost settlement in Slovakia, has historical roots dating back to the Árpád era. Its thermal baths and excellent beaches make it a popular holiday resort. Its well-ordered main square is full of restaurants and cafés. From its Danube embankment you can see perhaps the most beautiful panorama of Esztergom with the Basilica and the castle, and the Maria Valeria Bridge is also a very favourable view from here. It is worth visiting the City Museum, where you can admire valuable documents from the founding of the city as well as artefacts of local crafts of bygone ages. There are many cultural events throughout the year, but when it comes to Parcany, the Simon Judah Fair in October is a must. An unadulterated fairground with centuries-old traditions. Nature lovers should also visit the Garam River, which flows into the Danube not far from the city. From its port on the Danube you can take a summer cruise to the Danube bend.
